Ryedale District Council will shortly be undertaking a household canvass across the area, which benefits citizens in a number of ways – it enables them to vote and could improve their credit rating.

Every year, the district council must check the details of everyone registered to vote in households across Ryedale, to ensure the information held is up-to-date. This will happen between July and November.

Communications will be going out to all households soon by post and email. Citizens are being asked to read this communication carefully, follow the guidance and respond to Ryedale District Council as promptly as possible. Public Health England (PHE) has advised that people receiving letters are not put at any extra risk of contracting COVID-19.

Stacey Burlet, Ryedale’s Electoral Registration Officer, said: “We are committed to ensuring that everyone who is entitled to vote, can vote. We will carry out our annual canvas in a COVID-secure way to make sure that our electoral register records are correct. The first step in this process is to send out letters and emails and we’d encourage citizens to follow the guidance you receive. Being registered to vote gives you the right to participate at elections and referendums and could also improve your credit rating."
