Families across North Yorkshire are invited to join online Christmas carol singing lessons to get into the Christmas spirit together.

North Yorkshire County Council's Adult Learning and Skills Service will launch the weekly lessons as part of their Family Learning offer from Tuesday, 17 November, between 6pm and 7pm.

Tutor Martyn Cresswell, who recently won the Community Learning Teacher of the Year Award, will encourage all participants to sing up and share their enthusiasm with other families taking part. The finished performance, featuring singers in their homes, will be recorded and posted online for all to enjoy.

Cllr Patrick Mulligan, Executive Member for Education and Skills, said: “This initiative by our Adult Learning and Skills Service offers a great opportunity to involve the whole family in an activity that will boost spirits during a difficult time and help to bring together people across the length and breadth of North Yorkshire. No doubt the resulting performance will also bring pleasure to a wide audience in the run-up to Christmas.”

The course is open to families with children of all ages. Participants will need a tablet or laptop with an internet connection and a camera to record themselves, so that their contribution can be captured for the wider public audience to appreciate.

The last session will be on Tuesday, 15 December. Get more information and book, or call the Adult Learning team on 01609 536066 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
